Back in 2009 while going to college, I was assigned a research paper on a topic of my choosing, in trying to find a topic that would be enjoyable I stumbled upon an article about a Porsche that I’d never heard of. I decided to write my paper on this little 70’s roadster and my love affair with the 914 has grown ever since. The project introduced me to the 914 and all of the potential these little cars have.
I bought my first, a flared Aubergine roller, from this fanatic Jamie, who owned 5 or 6. He directed me to a site called 914World and I began to understand not only how awesome the car was but the great community that is behind it.
With plans of a Subaru conversion I began slowly gathering parts, 911 5 lug gear, an engine, transmission… Soon I found that there was only one place offering bolt in conversion pieces and besides being much too costly for my budget, the system only worked with the 901 transmission. No problem, I had worked in a fabrication shop Metaltech4x4 for several years, I could just make my own.
One day, perusing one of the Subaru builds on the forums, I read a post pleading for company to come out with some of the conversion gear. The light bulb turned on, if I am building my own cradle why can’t I just make it repeatable and help out some others who can’t?
Finally after college and life were subdued Cold Water Conversions LLC was formed and I came out with my first five products, the basics to bolt a Subaru engine and 901 or Subaru transmission into a 914.
The goal of the company is not to make my millions, but to build some quality parts for my car and anyone else who wants to put some reliable power into an awesome car and not have to spend a small fortune to do it.
